That same energy is exactly what we're seeing in this year's NBA playoff picture, where underdog stories are developing across both conferences.

Looking at the Eastern Conference standings, I've got to say the Celtics have been absolutely dominant with their 64-18 record. Having followed their journey all season, their defensive improvements have been remarkable - they're allowing just 108.2 points per game, which is nearly 5 points better than last season. What really impresses me is how they've maintained consistency despite injuries to key players. The Bucks at 49-33 have shown flashes of brilliance, though I think their defensive rotations still need work if they want to make a deep playoff run. The Knicks at 47-35 have been my surprise package - their gritty, physical style reminds me of those Thunderbelles teams that always punched above their weight.

The Western Conference is where the real drama unfolds, in my opinion. The Thunder's 57-25 record speaks volumes about their development, but I've noticed they tend to struggle against physical defensive schemes. The Nuggets at 57-25 have that championship pedigree, though I'm concerned about their bench scoring dropping to just 28.3 points per game in the last month. The Timberwolves at 56-26 have been fascinating to watch - their defensive rating of 108.1 is elite, but their offensive consistency worries me come playoff time.

When we talk about playoff positioning, the play-in tournament adds such an exciting layer to the competition. Teams like the Lakers at 47-35 and Warriors at 46-36 are exactly the kind of dangerous lower seeds that can pull off those Thunderbelles-style upsets. I've always believed that momentum matters more than seeding in the playoffs, and these teams have the veteran experience to make things interesting. The Heat at 46-36 are another team that scares me - they've proven they can flip the switch when it matters most.

From my perspective, the most compelling storylines are developing in the middle of both conferences. The Pacers at 47-35 have that explosive offense that can trouble any team, though I question whether they can get enough stops against elite competition. The Pelicans at 49-33 have the talent to surprise people, but their injury history makes me nervous. What I love about this time of year is how every possession matters - it's exactly what we saw in that Thunderbelles match where small adjustments made all the difference.

As we look toward the championship picture, I'm leaning toward the Nuggets coming out of the West, though the Thunder could certainly prove me wrong if their young players step up. In the East, I think the Celtics have the most complete roster, but the Knicks have that underdog mentality that could carry them further than expected. The beauty of playoff basketball is that regular season records only tell part of the story - it's about matchups, adjustments, and which teams can handle the pressure when everything's on the line.

Reflecting on that Thunderbelles upset reminds me why I love playoff sports - the unpredictability, the emotional swings, the way unknown players can become heroes overnight. We're seeing similar potential Cinderella stories developing across the NBA landscape this season. Teams like the Kings at 46-36 or the Magic at 47-35 have the talent to shock the basketball world, much like that stunning straight-sets victory we witnessed last season. What excites me most about this playoff picture is the sheer number of compelling narratives. You've got veteran teams trying to prove they still have it, young squads looking to make their mark, and everything in between. As someone who's followed this league for decades, I can tell you that this year's tournament feels particularly wide open - any of the top six teams in either conference could realistically make the Finals if they catch fire at the right time. That uncertainty is what makes basketball the beautiful, maddening, and utterly captivating sport that keeps us all coming back for more.

LIGHTING, LIGHTING, AND MORE LIGHTING
People are typically drawn to bars solely based on their atmosphere. The best way to knock your next commercial bar design out of the park is using the perfect amount and type of lighting. Use standout light fixtures as their very own statement piece, track lighting for adjustable ambiance, hanging pendant lights over tables, and ambient backlighting to display the alcohol. Bartenders need to serve and customers need to order, so make sure it’s just functional as it is attractive. 

CHOOSING YOUR BARTOP
What may seem so obvious, is often so overlooked in commercial bar design- the material of your actual bartop itself. While we realize stone and marble are as classy and elegant-looking as can be, the reality is that they just aren’t your best option for a durable and long lasting bartop. They crack, have no grip, and break way too many glasses. Opt for a high-quality wood bar instead. Oaks, maples, mahoganies, and ashes are sturdy and provide your customers with a firm grip for their glasses. 

THEME 
In a sea of millions upon millions of bars, how can you make your commercial bar design stand apart from the rest? The answer is to pick a unique, centralized theme and run with it. Whether it’s your next sit-down restaurant bar design, or remodeling the small, locally-favorite gem, you have to find out what your clientele wants. Survey the neighborhood of your establishment and find out what the demographics are there. Maybe a gritty, western bar would be a hit. Or maybe a more modern, sleek design is what’s missing in the area. Whatever theme you decide upon, hit it out of the park with the perfect lighting, wall art, music, and furniture. It’s all in the details. 

THE GUIDE TO YOUR NEXT RESTOBAR 
You’ve got the food, you’ve got the restaurant, you’ve got the customers, now all you need is a beautifully designed bar to top it all off.  Small bar designs for restaurants have a tendency to be a little thrown together and incohesive with the rest of the establishment. Stay on brand- create consistency with tying in the same color scheme, furniture, art, and overall ambiance of the pre-existing restaurant. Make sure the placement of your bar makes sense as well, have it in a place where it’s visible and easy to navigate but not in the way of servers and other guests. If the bar is going to serve food, be sure to consider the location of the kitchen to not obstruct traffic flow. Consider all of these small tips as you work through your next restaurant bar design. 

SPACE CONSTRAINT 
It’s no secret that bars have the reputation of being a little cramped, and in some cases- way too cramped. Consider all of the space constraints while designing your next commercial bar design and we can change that bad rap that bars have been holding for far too long. First and foremost, be sure to measure your bar, barstool, cabinet, and equipment height. Generally, a bar is 42” in height while a stool is 30” in height. Also be sure to allow at least 3’ of space between the bar and the alcohol for the bartender’s functionality and efficiency. Consider multiple register and drink-making stations for bartenders as well. Allowing 2’ between patrons is going to give them enough space to eat and drink, and most importantly, simply be comfortable. All of these considerations are especially helpful if it is a restaurant bar design, where the space is even more valuable.
